My New Role as Publisher of GRAND Magazine

With its latest September/October 7th anniversary issue being sent to subscribers today, GRAND Magazine, the digital magazine for Grandparents and their families, relaunches with a new focus on first-time Grandparents.

I am excited to announce my new role as Publisher of GRAND, as it is linked to my other exciting new role – as a first-time grandparent myself. I very much look forward to working with Christine Crosby, the Editorial Director, and Christine Bettencourt, Managing Editor, at GRAND Magazine. Christine Crosby was at the forefront by launching GRAND as a digital publication in 2007. As Christine has stated, now is the time when digital magazines are coming into their own. It is the direction in which publishing is heading, with its benefits for advertisers of the digital format, such as the multimedia features, and delivering the desirable profile of the digital magazine reader. They have appeal to consumers as a ‘green’ alternative to print, leaving a smaller carbon footprint that will benefit future generations, which is of particular importance to grandparents.

These refreshments to GRAND will ensure we continue to be relevant and best serve the more than 65 million grandparents in the U.S. The sheer numbers and financial strength of today’s grandparents is evident in the recently released The MetLife Report on American Grandparents – New Insights for a New Generation of Grandparents, in collaboration with Peter Francese, published by the MetLife Mature Market Institute. One in every four American adults is a grandparent, according to the study. The number of grandparents is projected to increase rapidly over the next decade, rising from today’s 65 million to a stunning 80 million in 2020 as more baby boomers become grandparents. The median age of new grandmothers is 50. The median age of new grandfathers is 54.

This issue features on the cover Michael Beckwith and his wife Rickie Byars Beckwith. Michael Beckwith is a New Thought minister, author and founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, California with more than a million fans worldwide. This issue also announces the winners of GRANDparent of the Year, with some truly touching stories told in the many nominations GRAND received.
